Release pace calculator

Your real words per day, your real days off. Out comes the number of books your year actually supports and when each one lands. It runs in your browser — nothing you type leaves this page.

What this calculator gives you

Type in four numbers you already know — your words per writing day, your writing days per week, the finished length of a typical book, and the weeks you take off — and it returns your words in a normal week, your words across a year after the time off, the weeks per book once editing and launch are counted, how many books a year that pace really supports, and the dates your next four releases land on. Nothing is uploaded and nothing is stored.

What this tells you, and what it does not

It tells you the arithmetic truth of your own pace — which is usually kinder than the number in your head, and always more useful than a schedule copied from someone who writes faster. What it cannot do is hold the plan when life moves: the release that slips, the edit that runs long, the rest week you actually need. That is the job the paid product does, and it is a different job.

Read release pacing for how to choose a rhythm you can sustain, and how to plan your author year for what to hang on it.

Where our numbers come from

These tools are free and they invent nothing — every figure they return is arithmetic on a number you typed. The paid product is different: it runs on data we count ourselves, and we publish the count rather than round it.

29paying author accounts
51pen names run
717books tracked
550promo & swap slots scheduled
451plan versions generated
1,139,528weekly trope-demand rows behind the lane data

Measured from live Perfect Year HQ records on 21 August 2026 (internal audit run IN-0777-2026-08-21). Counts cover active paying accounts only, as whole-population aggregates. We never name a client and we never publish a client's book, plan or sales.
